Submitted By: John Stewart Query: Harriot Elizabeth KENNERLEY married William Henry SHAKESPEAR, Does anybody know their family and why did they come to New Zealand. Notes: James Henry STEWART, my Great Grand Father, traveled with William and Harriot SHAKESPEAR as a 16 year old from Gravesend, Kent. We have no idea how they came to travel together when they appeared to come from different parts of England. |
Harriot Elizabeth KENNERLEY married William Henry SHAKESPEAR in Liverpool, England about 1869. About 1877 they traveled to New Zealand where they settled in Auckland and ran an importing business. William died in 1899 and Harriot died in 1933. Both are buried on the North Shore. They had no children. |
Submitted By: Joseph B. Yount Query: I am writing in an effort to locate a descendant of Dr. Samuel Kennerly who might have a photograph of him. Notes: He was a very active Mason both in Virginia and Missouri. As a very active member of Staunton, Va., Lodge, he was a founder in 1866 of our local lodge, Lee Lodge No. 209, AF&AM, here in Waynesboro, Va., near his home. He was also our first master. Lee Lodge continues to flourish and several years ago moved into a beautifully restored former church. We have pictures of most all of our past masters but none of him and would really like to get a copy of a photograph we could display. |
I am related to Dr. John Hanger (1792-1862), Augusta County, Virginia, whose daughter, Fannie, married Dr. Samuel Kennerly. After the Civil War the Kennerly's moved to Missouri. They had several children, among them a son, John Hanger Kennerly. I would also be glad to share Hanger family information with any descendants of Dr. Samuel and Fannie Hanger Kennerly. |

Submitted By: Beth Young Query: Searching for KENNERLEY's of Cheshire Notes:My 3xg grandmother was Harriet KENNERLEY b 1815 in Congleton, Cheshire, England. She was the daughter of John KENNERLEY b c 1785 and Martha FODEN b c 1789, we think from Lower Withington, Cheshire, England. Haven't been able to get back any further and would appreciate any help. |
I also have connections to 2 other KENNERLEY's. When Harriet died her husband (William HANKINSON b 1809)married her sister Elizabeth, b 1819, and they had a son William b 1847. Harriet and William's son John HANKINSON b 1840, also married twice. I am descended from his second wife, but his first wife was Rebecca EARDLEY b c 1840, daughter of Samuel EARDLEY b c 1812, and Mary KENNERLEY b c 1816. This Mary had at least one brother, descendants of whom live in the US, who I have been in touch with. I have a lot of notes from various sources, about KENNERLEY's in or near Congleton, which I am happy to share with anyone else researching these families from Cheshire, England. |

Submitted By: Jim Merritt Query: Searching for my gr grandfather Kennerly Buckingham Wonacott Notes: If anyone out there is aware of such an inter marriage please contact me. Kennerly's father was Richard, mother was Lucinda ? We don't know her last name, was it Kennerly? Do contact me if you have any clues. |
Kennerly Buckingham Wonacott (b.8-27-1819 in Suffolk Nansemond VA) was my gr grandfather and I'm more sure now than ever that an ancestor of his was a Kennerly. As I read this account of the Kennerly's of Devon/Devonshire England, I am convinced that there is a family connection between Kennerly and Wonacott as the Wonacott's also are from Devon. |
